falseWhat's the difference between a buffalo, true or false?
Well, the true buffalos are bovids from the Old World (aka Eurasia and Africa), whereas the bison or American buffalo is not a 'true' one.
The American bison (Bison bison) is closely related to the European bison (Bison bonasus). True buffalos belong to other genera:
Syncerus caffer is the African buffalo.
Bubalus bubalis is the water buffalo from Asia (India, Nepal, Malaysia, etc.). There are other species of the genus, all are generally known as 'water buffalos'.
However, all these animals belong to the same family (Bovidae) and the same subfamily (Bovinae). What's the difference between a buffalo, true or false?

You can tell a false Buffalo from a true one by the way it keeps trying to make small talk to blend in with the other Buffalo.
